I took on a meaningful hometown project during my summer break to memorialize Oakland Beach through public art. Drawing on memories and local culture, I designed and painted a mural at Chef’s Oakland Beach Diner, incorporating custom lettering and visual elements that reflect the community’s connection to the historic neighborhood. By returning to the place where I grew up, I aimed to create an artwork that not only honors the past but also brings a sense of nostalgia and pride to current residents and visitors.

Working on this project was both a professional and personal milestone. It offered hands-on experience beyond the classroom and allowed me to collaborate with local businesses and patrons who have long cherished Oakland Beach. The process deepened my appreciation for community-engaged art and strengthened my skills in mural creation, project planning, and execution. Ultimately, this piece serves as a visual tribute to a beloved local landmark and underscores my commitment to creating work that resonates with place and people.
